Your body can't make DHA from plants

Plants give you ALA, a short-chain omega-3. Your body is supposed to convert it into DHA — the form your brain, eyes and heart actually run on. In practice that conversion runs at a few percent.

So a plant-based diet leaves most people short of DHA, no matter how much flax or chia they eat. Fish don't make DHA either — they get it from algae. We skip the fish and take it straight from the source: high-dose, pure, and free of the mercury and other toxins that come with the sea.
